Just a little thing I did in Illustrator and Photoshop. I am really into paper cut illustrations but this is a sort of cheater's shortcut due to lack of free time and a shortage of exacto blades. Gaga

Alright so last week's hallway show subject was Lady Gaga- a person I know absolutely nothing about, but from what i gathered on the internet, she seems like a pretty interesting subject to illustrate. I drew this in my sketchbook and finished in photoshop. I still am having a difficult time putting together compositions and composing multiple elements together to turn it from a portrait to an actual illustration. It's something I will be focusing on each week until I get to a point where I'm satisfied. I am happy that the colors showed up better in this version than what shows up on Blogger- the colors are always so dull.
Also, I am working on a new painting that is a secret until I reveal it to my boyfriend for his birthday next week. I didn't plan this one out really at all, I am just sort of going with whatever comes out of my hand. I am excited for the direction it is headed in though. Be on the lookout!
The Hallway Show

So, last year my friends and I started this little group project where we would pick a different pop culture figure each week and do a quick portrait of them. We didn't even have any legit space to hang these shows so we taped them to a wall outside one of the classrooms. At first our professors thought it was a bad idea and thought we should be focusing on our studio work instead. The shows started gaining steam, though. More and more people started to hang work up. Sometimes the results were hilarious. Well, pretty much every time actually. It was a great little exercise that allowed us to blow off some steam, experiment with different media, and not worry about whether or not we were creating some huge masterpiece. It was so much fun. Probably one of the highlights of my senior year at CCS. 2 of my friends even documented the whole thing and made a book about it at the end of the year. The teacher who pulled us aside at the beginning, saying we needed permission to hang work on the walls, the one who said we should be focusing on real work: he ended up writing the foreword to the book. We also had a show in one of the school's galleries the last month of school with all of the accumulative work. It was great.
It was the Hallway Show and it's back. Well, my friend, fellow artist and co-creator of the show, Chelsea Kirchoff, resurrected this beast last week with an online version of the show. It's back and better than ever. Here's the link, check it out. I know it will never be the same as the real thing. There was nothing better than coming into school on Tuesdays and watching the wall grow with new drawings and paintings. But this comes in close second and in a small way I feel at home again.
